Arrival of the Swans

We just bought a pair of Royal Mute Swans for the pond.  We used to have swans on the pond and each spring they would nest and have around 5 little ones.  We sold them a few years ago but missed watching them swim.  So they are back!  They are so graceful to watch.  Another benefit is that they are territorial and will keep whole flocks of Canadian Geese from landing.  They are pretty too but the make a lot of noise (and dirt).  The swans are perfect residents. :)

Fall Leaves

The fall is our busiest time of year as people come to see the leaves changed into bright colors.  Peak season for viewing the trees is the beginning until mid October but of course that is different each year. The weather is also great that time of year with warm days and cool nights. While we are not in the mountains, we have wooded areas around the house and we are not far from a waterfowl management area which features thousands of acres of woodland, lakes and fields for viewing both the colorful trees and gueese and swans that migrate.  There are even a few bald eagles in the park.  All of this is within a five minute drive of our inn :)

Water pump and sandstone trough

We are often asked about the water that runs constantly through the pump and trough in the front yard.  Yes, it is natural spring water that runs by gravity from the mountain.  It is great water which many local residents come to bottle for drinking.  It has run for decades through the sandstone trough and then into the pond.  The wooden pump case is a replica of those found on the Ephrata Cloister property and the trough is an old hand-hewn sandstone trough from a local farm.  Many wedding and engagement pictures have been taken beside the pump!

New improvements at Clearview

After completely renovating the parlor, stairways and porch areas last year.  We have now just upgraded two bathrooms with new beautiful marbletop vanities.  The bathroom on the first floor next to the office was also completely restored with weinscoating, hardwood floor and new fixtures.

Natural setting

We have been having white tailed deer coming to drink in the pond in front of the house almost every day the last week. They are not even afraid of people walking in and out of the inn! In the cool mornings there is a mile long walk on a paved road that leads through a canopy of trees. Its refreshing to walk while birds sing and you can hear the water running through the brook.
